JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – On Monday, Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba asked residents to reach out to the city if they had a run-in with law enforcement, and they believe it warrants further investigation.

This comes a week after the mayor asked the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) to release the body camera footage related to the death of Keith Murriel, after he was arrested by Jackson police.

Lumumba said he received multiple questions from residents about what the city is doing about officer-related incidents.

“To be clear, I think it is important, as I mentioned, that we be transparent and that we be open to critique and improvement as it relates to policing,” the mayor said.

He stated that the city cannot release the body camera video because MBI is still investigating Murriel’s death.
