DJ 901

DJ 901’s radio journey started his senior year at Tougaloo College, when he brought his sound to WRBJ-FM with a 25 minute mix show for the Jackson Metro area. But honestly, it started way before that. He was DJing parties as a freshman, just chasing the vibe, and that turned into a real love for radio.

By his junior year he had grown into “Whispers in the Dark,” a R&B show that built a loyal following airing Sunday through Wednesday. Weekends belong to him too, with high energy hip hop and rap mix shows on Friday and Saturday that now reach listeners in other markets.

Outside the booth, 901 has spent years building a career in communications, digital media, content creation, community outreach, and public relations. He’s worked on campaigns for city transit, real estate brands, and urban radio, and he knows how to tell a story that actually connects with people, on social media and in real life. That mix of on air talent and strategy behind the scenes is what sets him apart.

At WRBJ, he works alongside veteran Operations Manager Kwasi Kwa on programming, digital content, and production, and he also oversees engineering for the station, keeping things running smoothly from behind the scenes as well as on the air. He’s the guy bringing music, culture, and community together, and if you follow Jackson State athletics, you’ve probably heard his voice covering games, breaking down updates, or sitting down with players, coaches, and fans.

He’s also deeply invested in the community. He mentors youth, works closely with Jackson Public Schools, and sits on the Metro Council Board for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mississippi. Before radio, he was a highly recruited athlete with scholarship offers from NCAA Division I, II, and NAIA programs. He holds a Master’s degree in Leadership from Belhaven University and is a proud, active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Faith is a big part of who he is too. He’s a proud member of Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church, and that grounding shows up in how he shows up for his community.

Whether he’s on air, online, or out in the community, DJ 901 stays pushing the culture forward.
