Lexington neighbors clean up after severe storms

LEXINGTON, Miss. (WJTV) – Severe weather swept across Mississippi on Wednesday, June 14, leaving behind damage in Holmes County.

Dozens of trees and power lines were knocked down as the severe storm moved through Lexington. Neighbors said they were left with no power.

Crews have been working to clear the streets in Lexington and other hard-hit areas. Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said no injuries were reported.

According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), 10 homes were damaged in Humphreys County during the severe weather event on June 14. Five homes and a church were damaged in Lawrence County, and 15 homes were damaged in Forrest County.

is working with counties to assess damage from the severe weather on June 14, 2023. Statewide there are reports of homes damaged, trees down, and power outages due to high winds.

MEMA encourages residents with any damage to do the following:

  • File an insurance claim.
  • Take photos of the damage.
  • Report damage to county/MEMA via the self-report tool.
