JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A chase from Pearl ended in a crash in Jackson on Thursday, December 7.

Frank Hutton, public information officer for the City of Pearl, said officers were notified about a vehicle traveling on Interstate 20 that was listed through NCIC as carrying missing juveniles from North Carolina.

Officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it on I-20 westbound near Airport Road. However, the vehicle refused to stop.

Hutton said officers chased the vehicle into the city limits of Jackson. A Pearl police vehicle was involved in an accident on Interstate 55 at Waterworks Curve. The officer was injured and taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) for treatment. At last check, the officer was in stable condition.

Hutton said the suspect’s vehicle continued to Woodrow Wilson Avenue where the driver lost control, struck other vehicles and wrecked in front of Children’s of Mississippi.

The suspect was arrested. Hutton said the reported missing juvenile was recovered safely. No one in the other vehicles were injured.

The suspect was charged with felony fleeing and is being held in the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center.

The other juvenile in the car was listed as a missing person in North Carolina. Hutton said detectives made contact with authorities in North Carolina and the juveniles’ parents.

Capitol police are investigating the accidents.
