SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Scott County deputies said the man accused of killing an elderly woman has been captured.
Scott County deputies made the announcement on social media that Sammy “Scotty” Patrick had been arrested in Byram, Mississippi, on Friday, January 5. He was wanted for capital murder and rape.
Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee said Patrick sexually assaulted and killed 78-year-old Dee Eady at her Forest home on Saturday, December 30. Patrick allegedly burned Eady’s body.
Investigators said Patrick robbed a Subway in Woodville, Mississippi, shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 1. Woodville is more than 170 miles away from Scott County.
Patrick was also wanted for multiple auto burglaries in Scott and Newton counties.
Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) personnel followed investigative leads to Patrick’s location and observed the vehicle being operated by the suspect in the Crystal Springs area.
Agents with the U.S. Marshals Service said Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) troopers were able to assist in the vehicle stop after Patrick exited Interstate 55 in the Byram area. The vehicle stopped at a gas station where Patrick was arrested without incident.
“The arrest of this dangerous fugitive is a direct result of the perseverance of our investigators and the interagency cooperation that exists between our area law enforcement partners,” said U.S. Marshal Mark Shepherd of the Southern District of Mississippi.
