COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A suspect was injured during an officer-involved shooting in Covington County.

The incident happened on Jack Flowers Road in Collins on January 20, 2024.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said deputies were responding to a call for service at a home. When they arrived, Martin said the suspect began firing shots at the deputies, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital. The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries, according to Martin.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the shooting. Once they complete the investigation, they will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
