JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) called for a special session to finalize a $10 billion economic development project in Madison County.
Reeves said the project will create 1,000 jobs. At $10 billion, this is the single-largest capital investment in state history.
“The size of this new capital investment is unlike anything we’ve seen before in Mississippi,” said Reeves. “It’s the single largest capital investment that has ever been made in the state of Mississippi – by a lot. The fact is that records were made to be broken, and that’s exactly what our state continues to do. This is a massive win for Central Mississippi, the Jackson metro area, and all of Mississippi. It’s a great time to be a Mississippian.”
Once finalized, the governor said the project will result in two hyperscale data center complexes on two industrial park sites. One data center will be located in Canton, and a second will be located at another site in Madison County.
He said he will announce the name of the company after legislators finish the special session, and the data centers could be at least partially open by 2027.
Most of the state money — $32 million — will go toward job training programs, Reeves said.
Legislators met in a special session last week and approved incentives for a plant that will manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. It will be in Marshall County in northern Mississippi, near the Tennessee state line.
Reeves called the special session to begin on Thursday, January 25, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. The special session could last as little as one day.
