JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A local DJ lost his life in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting in Jackson.

Anthony Davis, known “DJ Choo” to many, has been described as a go-getter with a bright future.

Laurel Galloway met Davis in 2018. She learned about his death through a text.

Police said Davis was shot and killed near the intersection of North State Street and Cedars of Lebanon Drive shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29.

Suspects in a black Chrysler 300 and a black Hyundai Sonata were firing shots at one another, according to investigators. Davis’ vehicle was caught in the crossfire.

“He was all good people. Can’t say anything bad at all. Nothing,” said Galloway.

She said Davis celebrated his 23rd birthday just days ago.

“His last birthday was Thursday. I literally had just texted and said, ‘Happy birthday,’ and I told him you know that I’ll always love you, you know, no matter what. He said appreciate it,” Galloway said.

She continued, “Honestly, I could only look at my phone and cry.”

Jackson police are still investigating the incident.
