JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A 22-year-old woman pled guilty in connection to two homicides in Jackson.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Kaylan Owens was convicted of second-degree murder and accessory after the fact.

On October 23, 2022, the district attorney said Owens participated in an armed carjacking that resulted in the shooting death of Terrell Jenkins. She was initially indicted for first-degree murder. Two other individuals were also indicted for first-degree murder and are awaiting trial.

In a separate case, Owens was indicted for accessory after the fact to murder. In this case, the district attorney said Owens was charged with assisting two other individuals following the November 25, 2022, shooting death of 12-year-old Markell Noah.

Owens’ murder trial was set to begin on Monday, but she changed her plea guilty prior to jury selection.

For her participation in the armed carjacking that resulted in the death of Jenkins, Owens was sentenced to 22 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) with five years suspended.

On the charge of accessory after-the-fact in the murder of Noah, Owens was sentenced to 10 years in the custody of MDOC.
