JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Public Schools (JPS) Campus Enforcement arrested a Lanier High School student on Wednesday for a social media threat made against the school.

JPS officials said the student, who is a minor, was charged with making a terroristic threat and faces federal prosecution.

According to officials with the school district, additional social media threats have been reported against Forest Hill High School and Jim Hill High School. They said the individual(s) responsible for the threats towards Forest Hill and Jim Hill may also face federal prosecution.

JPS Campus Enforcement, Jackson Police, and Homeland Security are currently investigating the threats.

“We are cooperating with law enforcement officials and taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We strongly encourage parents to emphasize to their children the importance of not committing these criminal acts that cause fear and disruption to our learning environment,” officials said.
