LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A pilot was injured after a helicopter crashed in Lee County.

WCBI reported the incident happened on Tuesday, February 6 near State Park Road. Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said the helicopter was submerged in a private lake at Tombigbee State Park.

The unidentified pilot survived the crash and was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

According to Johnson, the pilot left the Tupelo Regional Airport en route home when the crash happened. He said the pilot was able to get out of the helicopter and swim to shore.

The pilot has no life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
