JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A prominent Jackson building has been having a few issues, but leaders said they’re working to resolve the problems.

Accessibility at Thalia Mara Hall has caused a problem for those with disabilities.

Thalia Mara Hall was built in 1968, and it still has the original elevator inside.

Arden Barnett, president of the Mississippi Chapter of the National Independent Venue Association, said they’ve bandaged the accessibility issue far too long. After talks with Jackson leaders, Barnett said he’s confident the issue will be resolved ahead of big events, including the Swan Lake ballet and a show by Kevin Hart.

“Last night, I had a meeting with city officials, and I had another one this morning, and I left feeling very confident that things are being done as fast as humanly possible to remedy the problem. There are also measures in place that are being put in place to help mediate the problems until the elevator is fixed. So, this is something that is not being just looked over,” he said.

According to the deputy director of Jackson’s Human and Cultural Services, the replacement elevator will cost between $200,000 and $300,000.
