JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A man has touched thousands of lives with his voice. For some loyal WJTV viewers, he is a familiar face.

Larry Armstrong said he knew he wanted to be a radio announcer from a very young age.

“I think what it is a lot of announcers, whether you are in radio or whether you’re in TV, they don’t have that excitement in their voice. And I think what people find about when I even emcee programs or when I just talk, they see and they feel they excite me because that’s what I try to do. I try to present my my talents in a way that I’m excited about what I do. I’m excited about the group that I’m bringing up. I’m excited about the record that I’m about to play,” he said.

Armstrong said about 10 to 15 years ago, he was diagnosed with Bells Palsy. It was difficult at first, but Armstrong said keeping faith got him through the tough battle.

He still has his own radio show in Jackson, WMPR Blues 90.1 FM Gospel Radio Station. People who know Armstrong said he’s an internationally recognized name in the Gospel industry.

“I’ve known Larry for years, man, way back in school, and he was always musically inclined, you know, his own TV show right after, I guess, first year of college or whatever. And we just go back with all old ladies, and a lot of the new ones that’s coming up now. You know, they were a young man, but man, we just enjoy playing the gospel music. That hand clap and toe tap and no nap and good gospel you only get on show as if in,” said Bernard Smith, a friend of Armstrong.

Armstrong had a TV show on WJTV 12 News years ago called “Unity in Gospel,” which aired for nearly 17 years. After his work was done, he retired from television and continued being a radio personality.

Armstrong said people from all over the state and the country gravitated towards unity in Gospel. He’s touched many lives with his voice.

“My history with WJTV go way way back, and I’m grateful that WJTV is apart and has been apart all of my life,” he said.
