JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Multiple crews responded to a house fire in Jackson Thursday afternoon.

The fire happened at a home on Westhaven Drive just after 1:00 p.m.

According to officials with the Jackson Fire Department (JFD), the fire started due to the gas valve. Atmos crews were at the location doing work prior to the start of the fire.

Officials said the homeowners were not at the home at the time of the fire.

Christal Daniels, who lives in the area, appeared upset as she expressed her frustration.

“The whole city is just going to crap, and they know, and they don’t want to do anything about it. But it takes this to happen before people want to come out and fix things. So, I’m very disappointed. I have no… I have no faith in the City of Jackson at all,” she said.

JFD officials said no one was injured due to the fire.

WJTV 12 News reached out to Atmos Energy about the fire. They released the following statement.

Earlier today, Atmos Energy’s highly trained technicians responded to a customer inquiry at the 4800 block of S. Westhaven Drive in Jackson. While the technician was performing work at a property in the area, a fire began outside of the customer’s home. Our technician took immediate action to evacuate an adjacent home as a precaution and have natural gas service turned off to the property, and there are no reports of injuries as a result of the event.

Atmos Energy’s technicians remain on scene and have confirmed the area is safe.

We would like to thank the Jackson Fire Department and all emergency responders for their support.
