JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The 46th anniversary of the Heart Ball was held at the Country Club of Jackson. Each year, the Metro Jackson Heart Campaign celebrates heart health.

Organizers said the Heart Ball celebrates the advancements surrounding heart health, while raising awareness in the community.

“Everybody’s affected and whether it’s getting screened or, you know, if you do have health problems, and your blood pressure checked, nobody’s exempt from being affected by heart disease. So, everybody needs to get checked and be aware of family history and lead a healthier life,” said Shawn Sanders, MD – Cardiology, Baptist.

The event raises money for the local chapter of the American Heart Association. Organizers said the money will help support multiple things, including nutrition access, CPR education, and AED placements.

“Learn the warning signs, too, so that you can help others if you see. You know, someone having symptoms of a heart attack or stroke. So, I think we try to promote a lot of education and awareness for that, as well,” said Sara Sanders, MD – Geriatric, Baptist.

The American Heart Association has helped fight heart disease and strokes for years.

Heart.org, visit our website. There’s so many great resources. There’s also short videos about how to learn hands on CPR. It takes just a few minutes to know what to do in case you’re ever faced with an emergency,” said Jennifer Hopping, executive director of the American Heart Association.

Dr. Tyler Howell was this year’s Open Heart honoree.
