TUPELO, Miss. (WJTV) – Authorities are investigating after a suspect was killed during an officer-involved shooting in Tupelo.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said the shooting happened on Saturday, February 17.

Tupelo police officers responded to a domestic violence call near Abby Lane. When officers arrived, Martin said they encountered a suspect who displayed a firearm towards the officers.

The suspect allegedly retreated into a wooded area, and the Tupelo Police Department Special Operations Group was deployed. Shortly afterwards, Martin said the suspect was found and displayed a firearm at the officers. The officers fired their weapons and hit the suspect, who received fatal injuries.

Martin said the officers and K9 involved did not receive any serious physical injuries.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the shooting. They will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
