JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A pedestrian was hit and killed on Interstate 55 in Jackson.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said the incident happened just before 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20 on I-55 near Woodrow Wilson Avenue.

When Capitol police officers arrived at the location, they found the pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The person died at the scene.

The Hinds County coroner identified the victim as 44-year-old Gamila Truss.

The crash is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) and Capitol police.
