JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Jackson’s emergency contract with Richard’s Disposal is set to expire at the end of March 2024.
During the City Council’s meeting on Tuesday, the main topic was trash collection.
Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, introduced an ordinance to prohibit awarding a solid waste contract with Richard’s Disposal.
The Council took no action during the meeting. They said they cannot vote until Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba’s administration brings forth the request for proposals (RFP).
Councilman Ashby Foote, Ward 1, said the topic of garbage collection has been on the Council’s agenda 16 times already.
WJTV 12 News reached out to the mayor’s office to ask when a new contract would be presented to the Council. We were told it would be presented sooner than later.
