Man shot in head while attending Jackson balloon release

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A man is in critical condition after being shot in the head during a balloon release in Jackson.

Detective Tommie Brown said the shooting happened just before 9:00 p.m. in the 3700 block of Lampton Avenue on Monday, February 26.

Residents said they were attending a balloon release for someone who was murdered in 2023. Witnesses said they observed a white vehicle backed in at a nearby home when the suspect(s) began firing shots.

According to police, the victim was shot once in the back of his head. He is currently listed in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC).

Brown said the suspects have not been identified.
