JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – JXN Water was the key topic during Monday’s special City Council meeting.

Jackson City Council members voiced their concerns with Senate Bill 2628. If passed, the bill would create a nine-member governing board to oversee the water system.

State Senator David Parker (R-District 2) authored the bill.

Councilmembers said the bill violates the 2022 stipulated order, which placed Ted Henifin, interim third party manager for JXN Water, in charge of the system. The Council presented a resolution with requests for the Mississippi Legislature if the bill does pass.

One request includes appointing members to the advisory board from the cities of Jackson, Byram, Ridgeland and the Capitol Complex Improvement District.

Henifin supports the efforts to establish future governance for the water system and plans to work with legislators on recommended amendments.
