Teen charged with capital murder in Jackson shooting

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police said a 17-year-old has now been charged with capital murder in connection to a shooting.

Detective Tommie Brown said Cory Mitchell was arrested on Sunday, March 3 and initially charged with aggravated assault.

The shooting happened in the area of Jayne Avenue and Lindsey Drive on Friday, March 1. Brown said the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The Hinds County coroner said the victim, 17-year-old Arthur Brown, Jr., died at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) on Monday, March 4.
