YAZOO COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Authorities in Yazoo County arrested a man after a lengthy hostage situation.

Yazoo County Sheriff Jeremy McCoy said the incident started around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8 at a home on Highland Drive.

When deputies arrived at the location, they discovered a woman had allegedly been assaulted by her husband, who was still in the residence with a nine-year-old child.

Deputies said they made contact with the husband, who ran back inside the home where the child was asleep. McCoy said the man refused to come back out, and he refused to send the child out.

The sheriff said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) was notified about the incident, and they sent hostage negotiators and SWAT members. They were able to persuade the man to exit the home with the child. He was arrested at the scene.
