STONE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Two people have died and a deputy was injured during a shooting in Stone County, Mississippi.
Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said the incident happened in the 1500 block of U.S. 49 in Perkinston on Sunday, March 10.
According to Martin, a Stone County deputy responded to a domestic violence call. When the deputy arrived at the scene, the suspect shot the deputy in the arm. Martin said the deputy fired his weapon at the suspect, and a brief round of gunfire took place.
Investigators believe the suspect died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Martin said another individual was found deceased at the scene, and her death is believed to be connected to the suspect.
Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the officer-involved shooting. They will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
