One killed in Columbia apartment fire

COLUMBIA, Miss. (WHLT) – One person was killed during an apartment fire in Columbia, Mississippi.

The fire happened on Mississippi Avenue on Tuesday, March 12.

Marion County Coroner Jessie Graham identified the victim as 79-year-old Bobbi Jean Crumedy.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Columbia Police Department is working with the Columbia Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office on the case.

Columbia Police Chief Michael Kelly said four people in the building have been displaced.

Anyone who would like to donate to the victims to provide hotel rooms can deliver checks or cash to the Columbia Police Department. Donors should make their checks payable to Friends of Columbia Police Department, or they can send donations via CashApp to $FriendsofCPDMS.

The Red Cross will also provide assistance to help with long-term assistance.
