Sheriff: Man wanted for Jackson homicide shoots himself

LINCOLN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The man who was wanted in connection to a Jackson homicide allegedly shot himself in Lincoln County.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said Joshua Taylor shot himself at the Super 8 hotel just outside of Brookhaven on Tuesday, March 12. Before the shooting, Rushing said Taylor released a 16-year-old girl.

Taylor was initially sent to King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven for treatment. He was transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. There’s no word on his condition as of Wednesday evening.

Rushing said the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting, along with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) and the Jackson Police Department (JPD).

Taylor was wanted for a shooting that happened on Barrett Avenue near Washington Avenue in Jackson on Monday, March 4. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said 21-year-old Siris Catchings was killed in the shooting.

According to witnesses, the shooting resulted from an ongoing altercation involving Catchings’ wife.

WJTV 12 News reached out to JPD for an update on the case, and we are waiting to hear back.
