HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Four out of the five Hinds County districts each received $1 million that was allocated for improving street conditions.

Districts one, two, three and four will use the funds to repave streets, maintenance and the overall improvement of road conditions.

Supervisors said they’ve received complaints about road conditions, and their constituents deserve quality roads.

“So, I want to make sure with my million dollars, I want to do quality. I don’t want to just do work just to be doing work. I would do quality for my district, so it can last for good while because the potholes are terrible,” said Deborah Butler-Dixon, Hinds County supervisor for District 3.

The money will come from the American Rescue Plan. Road work is expected to start in the next month or once weather conditions are better.

“Normally, paving season lasts from around April or May until early November. So whenever the weather turns good, you can’t pave a road if it’s below 60 degrees. And so once the temperature hits 60 degrees where it’s at night, 60 degrees, then we’re able to start paving roads,” said Robert Graham, Hinds County supervisor for District 1.

District 5 received its $1 million in 2023.
