Hinds County detainee dies after being found unresponsive

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A Hinds County detainee has died after being found unresponsive in his cell.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said 29-year-old Kendravius Eldridge was found unresponsive in his cell at the Hinds County Detention Center just after 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18.

Eldridge was pronounced deceased. His cause of death is unknown, but Jones said foul play is not suspected.

According to the detention center’s website, Eldridge was arrested by Jackson police on March 8, 2024. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm, convicted felon and malicious mischief.

According to the sheriff, agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating the incident.
