Mississippi National Guard honors fallen aviator

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi National Guard (MSNG) honored a fallen aviator Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan Andrew Zemek’s burial procession took place at the 172nd Airlift Wing in Flowood. He received planeside honors.

Zemek was transferred to his final resting place courtesy of the 172nd Airlift Wing on a C-17 Globemaster 3 aircraft to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. He will be laid to rest at the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.

According to the MSNG, Zemek and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Derek Joshua Abbott died after a helicopter crashed on February 23, 2024, in a wooded area near Booneville. The AH-64 Apache helicopter was conducting a training flight when the incident occurred, according to the MSNG State Army Aviation Office.

Abbott is survived by his wife of 18 years and their three children. Zemek is survived by his wife of three years and their four children.
