HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson man pled guilty to second degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault on Monday, March 25, 2024.
After the guilty plea, Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Shaquille Thompson was sentenced in connection to two incidents.
On July 20, 2020, Jackson police responded to a fatal shooting at a home in the 300 block of Rosslyn Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered the body of 29-year-old Jabari Peterson.
Investigators said Thompson shot Peterson in the back and chest during a fight. They said he fled the scene while still firing the murder weapon.
In this case, Owens said Thompson was sentenced to 40 years in prison with 10 years suspended and 30 to serve on count one. He was also sentenced to 10 years on count two.
On September 28, 2022, Owens said Thompson and another inmate at the Hinds County Detention Center assaulted inmate Rekedrick Adams by stabbing him multiple times. Adams was also stabbed in the head with broken glass.

In this case, Thompson was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 10 years suspended and 10 years to serve.
Owens said the sentencing for all counts will run concurrent for a total of 30 years in prison and five years post-release supervision.
