VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – Malcolm Butler, a former NFL player and a Vicksburg native, was arrested in Rhode Island earlier this month for drunk driving.

According to CBS News, Butler was arrested in North Providence on Saturday, March 16 after an officer spotted a white Mercedes Benz stopped and blocking traffic around 3:00 a.m.

The officer said he could smell a “strong odor of alcoholic beverage” coming from Butler’s breath. When the officer asked the former NFL player if he had been drinking, Butler allegedly said, “Just take me to jail.”

Butler, 34, was charged with driving drunk and is expected to appear in court on Thursday, March 28.

His attorney filed a motion to dismiss or suppress the charge, arguing that his client’s Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and 14th Amendment rights were violated.

Butler played with the New England Patriots, the Tennessee Titans, and the Arizona Cardinals during his time in the NFL.
