ADAMS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Adams County deputies arrested a man who allegedly sprayed a deputy with pepper spray multiple times.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said the incident happened on Friday, March 29 on Homochitto Street and John R. Junkin.

According to the sheriff, a deputy observed an individual who had an active indictment for his arrest. The deputy was able to confirm the identity of the suspect as Orian Evans.

When the deputy tried to arrest Evans, Patten said the man resisted the deputy, retrieved a can of pepper spray from his pocket and sprayed the deputy multiple times in the face.

The deputy was able to call for backup, and Evans was taken into custody.

Patten said Evans was charged with simple assault on a law enforcement officer, failure to comply and resisting arrest. He was also served with the indictment for simple assault on a law enforcement officer, which took place on February 20, 2023, when Evans allegedly used pepper spray on a Natchez police officer.

Evans is being held without bond.
