JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police are investigating after an 80-year-old woman was shot and killed on Nichols Boulevard.
The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, April 1 in the 3800 block of Nichols Boulevard.
Detective Tommie Brown said the victim was pronounced deceased at the location.
The Hinds County coroner identified the victim as 80-year-old Annie Peoples.
Police said Peoples and her sons were lying in the front room of their home sleeping. They said a dark colored vehicle pulled up to the residence, three men got out, and they began firing shots into the home. According to investigators, Peoples was shot in the back of the head.
Police believe the suspects were targeting an individual who was not at the residence at the time of the shooting. Detectives have a person of interest in the case.
