JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A 20-year-old driver has been charged with child endangerment after a chase in Jackson.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said Capitol police attempted to stop a vehicle after it made an illegal U-turn to avoid a checkpoint on Friday, April 5. The incident happened at the intersection of Bailey Avenue and Samuel Bailey Drive.

According to Martin, the driver refused to stop and led officers on a brief chase. The chase ended when the fleeing vehicle hit a truck stopped for the traffic light at the intersection of Northside Drive and Bailey Avenue.

The driver was identified as 20-year-old Devon Reese Emmons. Martin said Emmons had two infant children in the vehicle, and both were unharmed. No injuries were reported.

Emmons was arrested and charged with felony fleeing, possession of a controlled substance, and felony child endangerment. Martin said additional charges are possible.
