JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police said a firefighter has died, and a woman is in custody after a shooting.

The shooting happened on Sunday, April 7 in the 200 block of Ferguson Drive.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the victim, 49-year-old Gerald Bates, was shot at the location and pronounced deceased.

Wade said the suspect, Tammie Williams, was arrested by the Jackson Police Department (JPD) SWAT team.
