JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police are investigating after a man was shot and killed.

The shooting happened in the 2600 block of Cliffwood Drive on Sunday, April 7.

Detective Tommie Brown said the victim was identified as 40-year-old Lloyd Ashley. He said Valencia Jones was arrested and charged in connection to the case.

Jones’ attorney, Warren Martin, said Ashley broke into the Cliffwood Drive home in Jackson.

According to Martin, Jones defensively fired a weapon and shot Ashley, who was also pointing a gun.

“The absolute privilege under Mississippi’s Castle Law doctrine applies in this matter, and the charges filed against Ms. Valencia Jones should be dismissed immediately. We are confident, with sufficient time and recourses, this young lady will be exonerated,” said Martin.

Jones was in court for her initial appearance on Monday. She received a $1 million bond.
