JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Bond has been denied for the woman accused of killing a firefighter in Jackson.

On Monday, April 8, a judge said Tammie Williams was denied bond because she’s an “extreme danger” to the community after a standoff with police.

The incident happened on Sunday, April 7 in the 200 block of Ferguson Drive.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the victim, 49-year-old Gerald Bates, was shot at the location and pronounced deceased. Williams was arrested by the Jackson Police Department (JPD) SWAT team.

According to family members, Bates and Williams had been together for more than 10 years.

During her initial court appearance, Williams requested a mental evaluation. She has no prior convictions.
