Collins man arrested after chase, standoff outside hospital

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A Collins man was arrested after a chase and standoff outside of a Jones County hospital.

The incident happened in the early morning hours of April 9, 2024. Jones County deputies were dispatched to assist Covington County with a chase that was coming into Jones County.

Officials said deputies were advised that the individual possibly had a weapon and was suicidal. They began to chase the vehicle on Highway 84 West near Highway 28. They said the vehicle continued to Laurel, and the driver parked outside South Central Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) and stayed in his vehicle.

Jones County deputies contained the scene until a negotiator and a tactical team arrived. Officials said the hospital was placed on lockdown.

According to officials, the driver, 61-year-old Stafford Lindsey, complied with the negotiator and was taken into custody. He was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and felony fleeing in a motor vehicle.

Lindsey is being held at the Jones County Adult Detention Center.
