Former Jackson police officer wanted for fatal shooting at apartment complex

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Authorities are searching for a former Jackson police officer in connection to a homicide.

Detective Tommie Brown said the homicide happened at Tapestry Northridge Apartments on Parkway Drive in Jackson early Tuesday morning.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Carlos Collins. The Hinds County coroner said Collins had been shot multiple times.

Brown said officers are searching for 33-year-old Marcus Johnson in connection to the fatal shooting. He’s wanted for murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Johnson is considered to be armed and dangerous.

According to Brown, Johnson worked for the Jackson Police Department (JPD) for eight months in 2013. He was separated from JPD pending disciplinary actions leading up to his immediate termination. Brown said Johnson resigned just prior to his termination.
