JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Family members of the man who was allegedly killed by a former Jackson police officer said they want justice in the case.

“I would rather him shoot me. Beat me with an axe. Not my baby. Not him,” said Ashla Hudson, the mother of 25-year-old Carlos Collins.

Detective Tommie Brown said the homicide happened at Tapestry Northridge Apartments on Parkway Drive in Jackson early Tuesday morning.

Brown said officers are searching for 33-year-old Marcus Johnson in connection to the fatal shooting. He’s wanted for murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Johnson is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Collins family said he had a restraining order on Johnson, who allegedly followed him to M-Bar.

“That’s when security was alerted. But the security guards at M-Bar say that they couldn’t do anything because they didn’t actively have the restraining order there. So, leading up to this morning, I figured if they had arrested him Saturday night, my son still will be alive,” said Hudson.

According to Brown, Johnson worked for the Jackson Police Department (JPD) for eight months in 2013. He was separated from JPD pending disciplinary actions leading up to his immediate termination. Brown said Johnson resigned just prior to his termination.

Anyone with information on Johnson’s whereabouts can contact JPD at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
