JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The former Jackson police officer accused of killing a man has been arrested and was extradited back to Jackson. Marcus Johnson, 33, arrived at the Jackson Police Department (JPD) Thursday afternoon.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Johnson was cooperative after he was captured by law enforcement in Louisiana.

Pace said Johnson led authorities on a chase from Mississippi to Louisiana after he was spotted in Vicksburg. The chase started on Interstate 20 on Wednesday, April 10.

According to the sheriff, authorities attempted to flatten the tires of Johnson’s vehicle.

“They attempted to initiate a stop on the vehicle. He did not stop. Instead, he accelerated to a higher speed and crossed over into Louisiana. This continued through Madison Parish, past the town of Tallulah. Richland Parish sheriff’s officers were able to deflate the tires on the suspect’s vehicle. He rolled to a stop and at that point was taken into custody without incident,” said Pace.

The sheriff said the chase lasted about 35 minutes before Johnson was captured outside of Monroe, Louisiana. No one was injured during the chase.

Johnson was wanted in Jackson for the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Carlos Collins, which occurred at the Tapestry Apartments on Tuesday, April 9.

According to Detective Tommie Brown, Johnson worked for the Jackson Police Department (JPD) for eight months in 2013. He was separated from JPD pending disciplinary actions leading up to his immediate termination. Brown said Johnson resigned just prior to his termination.
