Two staff members injured during fire at Mississippi school

BOLIVAR COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Two staff members were injured during a fire at a school in the Mississippi Delta.

The incident occurred at Hayes Cooper Center in Bolivar County just before 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 11.

According to a social media post shared by the Cleveland School District, all children are safe and accounted for. Two staff members sustained injuries during the fire. They were taken to the Bolivar Medical Center for treatment.

Officials with the Bolivar County Fire Department said multiple crews responded to the scene to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The school district said the Public Service Commission, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office were called to make their assessments.

The school will not be in session on Friday, April 12.
