Bond denied for former Jackson police officer charged with murder

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Bond has been denied for the former Jackson police officer charged with murder.

Marcus Johnson, 33, made his initial appearance in court on Friday, April 12 after he was extradited to Mississippi from Louisiana on Thursday, April 11.

Authorities said Johnson was captured in Louisiana on Wednesday, April 10 after a chase from Vicksburg. The chase started on Interstate 20.

Johnson was wanted in Jackson for the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Carlos Collins, which occurred at the Tapestry Apartments on Tuesday, April 9.

According to Detective Tommie Brown, Johnson worked for the Jackson Police Department (JPD) for eight months in 2013. He was separated from JPD pending disciplinary actions leading up to his immediate termination. Brown said Johnson resigned just prior to his termination.
