LAWRENCE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Lawrence County authorities are investigating after human remains were recovered from the Pearl River.
Lawrence County Sheriff Ryan Everett said the sheriff’s office received a call around 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 from fishermen reporting the remains. The remains were located about five miles north of Atwood Water Park.
Multiple agencies, including the sheriff’s office, the Lawrence County Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi, Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP), recovered the remains.
Everett said the remains were transported to Jackson for an autopsy and identification.
The sheriff said anyone with a family member or friend who they have not seen or been in communication with in the last few weeks can go through the sheriff’s office or a police department and file a missing persons report. He said the sheriff’s office has not had any reports filed in the course of the last few weeks.
The investigation is ongoing.
