CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – An attorney and the family of a Mississippi student, who was allegedly assaulted by a staffer, demanded answers and action.

Fifteen-year-old Cantanna Francois, her mother, and Attorney Carlos Moore met at the steps of Canton City Hall on Monday. They said they’re seeking accountability and justice after Francois was allegedly assaulted by a former school resource officer at Nichols Middle School.

“Not only can the city and the school district expect a civil lawsuit, but Ms. Davis wants Julia Parker held responsible in the criminal suit,” said Moore.

Francois claimed she was cursed at, choked, and dragged down the hall after attempting to use the restroom when given permission to do so by a teacher.

Officials with the school district said the resource officer had failed to adhere to proper procedures and protocols and was terminated.

Moore said the officer, identified as Julia Parker, is still currently employed with the Canton Police Department. He also said the school has refused to release surveillance video of the incident.

“We’re asking, we are demanding that the video be voluntarily released. If it’s not voluntarily released, we will take the appropriate legal actions to get a copy of that video. The public deserves to know what they paid someone to do to beat this young lady. She was on a public payroll. That’s a public video, and the public deserves to see what went on,” the attorney said.

He said Parker should be held fully responsible for her alleged actions.

“She still walks free in the City of Canton. She still carries a gun and a badge trying to enforce the rules that she herself broke. Ms. Parker, it’s time to pay the piper,” said Moore.
