JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Jackson State Women’s Basketball Team visited the Mississippi State Capitol on Wednesday. They were recognized by lawmakers.

Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann (R-Miss.) highlighted how the teams accomplishments have helped propel Jackson and Mississippi forward.

In March, the team won their third SWAC championship, earning a spot in the NCAA tournament. Recently, Angel Jackson was drafted into the WNBA to play for the Las Vegas Aces.

Head Coach Tomekia Reed said one of the team’s core foundations is to create great players.

“You know, we don’t really worry about defending the title. We just worry about being great, getting better, working more, and just sticking to our principles and our foundation that we have established. Our coaching staff right now is just recruiting really good players to come in and keep the program at the top. And so, that’s what we really want to focus on going into the next season,” she said.
