Two arrested for Copiah County homicide

UPDATE:

COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Copiah County deputies said Tyrell Bridges was taken into custody Wednesday evening by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten, Bridges was arrested just before 6:30 p.m. at his girlfriend’s mobile home on Windy Hill Road. Patten said Bridges was hiding in the backroom and was taken into custody without incident.

Bridges is being transported to the Copiah County Detention Center. 


COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Copiah County deputies arrested one man and are searching for another in connection to homicide.

Investigators said they received a call from the father of 53-year-old Billy Ray Jones on Monday April 15. He reported that his son was missing and had not been seen since Saturday night.

Shortly after the call, deputies were informed that a Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) worker reported that there was a body on the side of Highway 472. Deputies responded to the scene and discovered that the body was that of Jones. His body was partially burned.

Investigators said Matthew Nelson, 50, of Georgetown, was arrested in connection to the homicide. He is being held in the Copiah County Detention Center without bond.

Deputies said they’re searching for Tyrell Deonte Bridges, 32, in connection to the case. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

According to investigators, both Nelson and Bridges are charged with kidnapping and murder.
