One killed, five injured in Jones County crash

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – One person was killed and five others were injured during a two-vehicle crash in Jones County.

The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the intersection of Highway 84 and Masonite Lake Road. When firefighters arrived at the location, they found a pickup truck and a Chevy Tahoe involved in the crash.

According to officials with the Jones County Fire Council, the Tahoe had overturned and was resting on its roof in the middle of the eastbound lanes of the highway. The pickup truck was disabled in the eastbound lanes of the intersection.

Officials said there were three occupants in each vehicle. Firefighters said it appeared two individuals had been ejected in the middle of the eastbound lanes near the vehicles.

According to officials, one person died, one person had critical injuries, one person had serious injuries and three had minor injuries. Two of those individuals were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Jones County deputies and the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) also responded to the scene.
