JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The widow of the Belhaven man, whose body was found in the Pearl River in Lawrence County, responded to her brother-in-law’s temporary restraining order against her.

Karissa Bowley is the wife of Dau Mabil, who went missing on March 25 while he was walking in the Belhaven Heights area. His remains were found on April 13.

Dau’s brother, Bul, filed a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against Bowley, Capitol police and the Mississippi State Crime Lab last week. He asked the judge to not approve the release of Dau’s remains and to conduct an independent autopsy. Bul’s request was granted.

According to court documents, Bowley said any third-party autopsy would not be legal unless she authorizes it. The documents also stated that Bowley would have authorized an autopsy if Bul would have asked her, but instead, he had filed the restraining order before she learned her husband was deceased.

Last week, U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) requested the U.S. Department of Justice to open an investigation into Dau’s disappearance.
