JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The 19-year-old accused of killing a man in Jackson in early April appeared in court on Tuesday.

The court ruled that the state the burden for the murder charge against Valencia Jones. Her bond was set at $150,000.

The shooting happened in the 2600 block of Cliffwood Drive on Sunday, April 7.

Detective Tommie Brown said the victim was identified as 40-year-old Lloyd Ashley.

Jones’ attorney, Warren Martin, said Ashley broke into the Cliffwood Drive home in Jackson. According to Martin, Jones defensively fired a weapon and shot Ashley, who was also pointing a gun.
