JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson family has a message for the community after they lost a loved one to gun violence.

Taboris Jefferson was shot on Medgar Evers Boulevard near Coleman Avenue on Sunday, April 21. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

Jefferson’s aunt, Alberstine Walker, described her nephew as a hard-working, proud father who was always willing to help others.

“Three years ago, another nephew was taken by gun violence on April 20, three years ago. Now, on April 21, 2024, another loved one is taken by gun violence. So, you can imagine how families feel not knowing why people would do such things. And I’m like everybody else, put the guns down. Guns don’t solve a problem, especially from what I hear. He didn’t even know. He was just driving. And, you know, it could have been a mistaken identity, random shooting. We don’t know,” said Walker.

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting can contact the Jackson Police Department (JPD) at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
